Derek Sleater is an Occupational Therapist, Trainer, Registered Manager but first and foremost a carer.

Derek has experience running several services for inner London boroughs, from complex OT to Reablement. He was part of the teams leading on introducing Discharge to Assess, recommissioning of care and promoting single handed care.

Derek has a passion for developing the care sector to recognise how important the role of our carers are.

Derek made the difficult decision to step away from his career path and co-found a start up called Sunday Care Therapy.

Derek is registered as an Occupational Therapist both here in the UK and also the USA.

Derek has over 16 years working in Health & Social Care, but feels like he is only starting!

Session: Single Handed Care: Myths, Barriers and Benefits

Sian Ali
Assistant Team Manager / Independent OT

Sian Ali is an Assistant Team Manager with the Community Occupational Therapy Team,  Buckinghamshire Council (Bucks).  She is Moving and Handling lead, currently implementing a Single Handed Care Project in Bucks. She is involved in training staff in moving and handling techniques, risk assessment and demonstration. Bucks Community Occupational Therapist Team uses a strengths-based, graded approach to Moving and Handling practice, balancing the need for safety with the rights of the person being assisted to move.

Sian is also moving into independent practice and will be launching OTESA Expert Moving and Handling Academy in Summer 2022.
