The Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) is a pioneering, scientifically proven training experience that immerses participants in the world of dementia. Delivered across the UK through mobile simulators or in-house facilities, the VDT allows delegates to experience the challenges faced by people with dementia, helping them understand the practical changes needed in care and environment to improve quality of life.
Developed 25 years ago by Professor PK Beville and now offered in the UK by Training 2 CARE, the VDT has been shown through research by Ulster University to significantly improve dementia care. Over 300,000 people take the VDT each year, including staff from NHS Trusts, care homes, police, prisons, and universities.
A Truly Immersive Experience
Using specially designed sensory-changing equipment and environments, the Virtual Dementia Tour allows participants to experience the physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges faced by people living with dementia.
Delegates often demonstrate the same behaviours, actions, and emotions seen in people with dementia — not through instruction, but through experience. This powerful insight helps build empathy, understanding, and truly person-centred care.
