Understanding the Language of Dementia

The Dementia Interpreters course is an innovative, experiential training programme designed to enhance communication with people living with dementia.

The course focuses on recognising and understanding the changes in communication that occur as dementia progresses.

A Powerful, Practical Workshop

During this one-hour workshop, delivered to groups of up to 12 participants, delegates experience progressive communication barriers — including reduced ability to speak, see, hear, and move.

By placing delegates in similar situations to those experienced by people with dementia, the workshop creates powerful insight into frustration, fear, and fatigue — and how better communication can transform care.

What You’ll Gain

  • A deeper understanding of dementia-related communication
  • Practical techniques to translate behaviour into meaning
  • New approaches that reduce distress and improve connection
  • Recognition as a Level 1 Dementia Interpreter

Participants also gain access to the Dementia Interpreters Forum, joining a global community sharing learning, insight, and best practice.

An Experience That Changes Practice

Challenging, emotional, and transformative, this workshop continues to surprise and reshape understanding for everyone who takes part.
