Autism Reality Experience

The Autism Reality Experience (ARE) is an innovative, immersive training programme designed to give non-autistic individuals a firsthand understanding of the sensory processing challenges faced by those on the autism spectrum. Developed by Glenn Knight, Managing Director of Training 2 CARE, alongside autistic people, the experience is as realistic as possible, transforming perceptions of autism.

Immersive training that transforms empathy into action

The ‘ARE’ challenges normal thinking and directly confronts you with the profound impact of the environment, communication and much more.  As a delegate, you will feel the impact of:

  1. Sensory hypersensitivity
  2. Sensory overload and overwhelm
  3. Proprioceptive hyposensitivity
  4. Vestibular hypersensitivity
  5. Difficulty processing language and instructions
  6. Reduced flexibility of thought
  7. Environments that don’t account for individual needs

With over 700,000 autistic people in the UK, this experience is vital for organisations and services committed to inclusion.

Multiple Environments Available

The Autism Reality Experience offers a growing library of environments, including:

  • Home
  • School
  • Supermarket
  • Dentist
  • Bus
  • Airport
  • Prison
  • Fire & rescue scenarios
  • Police

Why Take Part?

Experiencing sensory overload and environmental barriers directly challenges assumptions, deepens empathy, and drives real-world change in design, service delivery, and support.

This experience doesn’t just change understanding - it changes behaviour.
