Panel discussion: Empowering body positivity
People with disabilities face challenges when it comes to body image and self-acceptance. This panel brings together activists and leaders with disabilities to discuss the unique issues they face regarding body positivity, and how we can empower those with disabilities to embrace their bodies.
Panellists will share their personal stories and struggles with body image and the impacts this has on their mental health alongside other aspects of their lives. Topics explored will include dealing with bullying, media representation and ideals of beauty, building self-confidence and resilience, and countering internalised ableism. The discussion will also examine the lack of resources, education, and support systems available to promote positive body image for young people with disabilities.
Most importantly, the panellists will offer perspectives on what needs to change in order for people with disabilities to be empowered in loving their bodies. This will involve calling out barriers that still marginalise body diversity, enabling people with disabilities to love themselves.
