In July of 2018 I started a journey that lead me to review the approach to single handed care. The journey has started to transform the way that care is provided in Cheshire West and Chester and we are working together with Hospitals, Health Teams and other Local authorities to ensure we develop a consistent approach from all aspects of client care so that the outcome for the client and those providing and paying for services is improved.
I started my career as an OT Assistant and then stores delivery person for Conwy County Borough Council in 2003. I then made the decision to train as an OT and graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2009. I secured my first job as an Occupational Therapist with Wrexham County Borough Council; I worked there doing Disabled Facility Grant work up until 2013. I then moved to Flintshire Council completing similar work up until 2018. I am now in Cheshire West and Chester working within a Reviewing Team. My role within this team is to complete reviews of existing packages of care and as part of this I began to concentrate on some of the double handed packages of care provided and how we might safely and economically reduce these. Within 5 months of working for the Authority I was recognised with the Innovation award for my work in Single Handed Care.
