An insight into the work of West Midlands Trains and their accessibility and inclusion projects. As well as looking at the importance of physical accessibility, this seminar examines ways to improve customer experience through proactive engagement, consultation, education, staff training and customer facing measures. Jon will also cover wider access challenges and opportunities facing the rail industry in the UK, and share some project examples and ideas with the audience
Jon Harris is currently the accessibility and integration lead at West Midlands Trains. His career has spanned 30 years in urban and transport planning, working within both public and private sectors. From as early as the 1990s Jon developed a passion for accessibility and equality matters, giving been one of the very first local authority highway access officers in the country. Since then he has brought his experience in policy development, consultation and engagement, traffic management and sustainable travel to help to create better places for everybody. He currently managed the West Midlands Trains Stakeholder Equality Group which provides insight into access needs across the West Midlands and London Northwestern railway networks.
