This presentation will give parents a basic understanding of what their child is entitled to and how to go about achieving it. It will discuss requests for EHC Needs Assessments, what to expect in an EHC Plan, common problems with EHC Plans, situations where parents should appeal and an outline of how to
Appeal. It will also include some interesting statistics and helpful advice to navigating the ‘maze’ that surrounds legal entitlement for children and young persons with special educational needs.
I am Director and Senior Solicitor at SEN Legal, based in Bury St Edmunds although I represent clients nationally. I have successfully acted for parents across several Local Authority areas, from obtaining an EHC Needs Assessment to extremely complex Post-19 Appeals. I am experienced in SEND Tribunal work, drafting formal submissions and representing parents of children/young persons in the SEND Tribunal.
My interpersonal skills reassure parents throughout the Appeal process and I am skilled in explaining the complexities of this undeniably complex field.
I am also experienced in COP work and have written the chapter on ‘Deputyship’ in ‘Special Educational Needs and Legal Entitlement, getting out of the maze 2nd edition’ 2017.
I am often at our big marketing events and deliver presentations nationwide on various topics in this area of the law. My pro-bono work involves writing a legal column for ‘Special Needs Jungle’.
