Naidex 45: Celebrating the Independent Living & Healthcare World

For its 45th anniversary, Naidex brought together an unbelievable line-up of speakers, exhibitors, visitors and world-exclusive solutions, forming THE ultimate hub of innovation for the independent living & healthcare sectors.

Just before 10am on the 26th March, a massive crowd was waiting in front of the entrance of Halls 6 and 7 at Birmingham’s NEC. Those waiting were there for something special, something they had waited all year to see. And as the doors opened, a feeling of exhilaration resounded amongst the crowd: Naidex had just opened its doors for the 45th year.

Over two days, the show’s aisles were packed with a total of 15,194 visitors who made their way to Birmingham to witness the latest innovations that have taken the independent living and healthcare industries by storm. And that is exactly what they found; with over 350 exhibitors from all over the globe displaying an awe-inspiring array of products and services, there was truly something for everyone present at the show. Exhibitors found their stalls packed from the moment the doors opened right up until closing time at 5pm. Brands such as RGK Wheelchairs, Coloplast, Airbnb, Saebo and Sensara were all present to display their latest novelties to curious visitors who have waited over a year to see and test these products and services.

"I've always found something I didn't know existed!" - Warwick Davies, Little People UK

Naidex has always been much more than a marketplace where delegates can find the latest innovations; Naidex is a place where people come together and learn about the industry’s future. As the epicentre of the disability and healthcare world, the show boasted an unparalleled speaker line-up. For its 45th anniversary, Naidex welcomed seminars from world renowned entities such as Microsoft, IBM, the National Autistic Society and PurpleSpace. The show also provided insights from some of the greatest influencers the industry has to offer. Crowds amassed to see world changer Martyn Sibley, paralympian turned entrepreneur Liz Johnson and the world famous Warwick Davis who spoke on behalf of Little People UK. Throughout both days seminar theatres were packed with visitors and brimming with information as well as inspiration, leaving audiences uplifted and empowered.

“Year on year it’s got better and bigger and it’s so relevant. You can get all of the advice you need under one roof” - Shani Dhanda, Disability Programme Manager at Virgin Media

Once again visitors were encouraged to be part of the show by participating in some of Naidex’s notorious interactive features. The hottest topics of conversation were brought to light during the Panel Debates, the Employability Panel captivated the public as experts from Scope, Microsoft, Crossbow Education and Evenbreak (amongst others) discussed the current climate of employment for people with disabilities.

New to this year was the Inclusive Fashion Panel, which burst onto the scene with a bang. The Live Debate Area was effervescent as panellists discussed the future of fashion, initiatives taken by the big names in the industry and the pioneers that are paving the way to inclusion. The crowd was gripped from start to finish as questions and conversations bounced back and forth between the panelists and the crowd.

Being active was one of the main themes of the show this year and that resonated throughout various areas of the show. The Live Sports Arena once again engaged members of the public to try their hand at various disability sports, including wheelchair rugby, boccia, martial arts and more! The future of inclusion in sports was also discussed in a thrilling panel session, where representatives from influential sports associations broke down the barriers to inclusive sport in order to better promote physical activity and inclusion.
