People First Keighley and Craven (PFKC) and Able Magazine are proud to announce a new partnership that will see PFKC produce a regular column in the UK’s favourite disability lifestyle publication, Able Magazine. The column will be dedicated to issues facing people with learning disabilities.

Too often, people with learning disabilities are left out of decision-making that directly affects their lives - from government policies to workplace accessibility and from healthcare planning to education reform. PFKC and Able Magazine both believe that a truly inclusive society must include people with learning disabilities as equal partners within these conversations.

Editor of Able Magazine, Tom Jamison, says: “People with learning disabilities are too often forgotten about when people discuss disability. We want to help give those people a voice through our established publication, that will serve to encourage other people with learning disabilities to find their voice and their potential”.

PFKC’s office is based at Keighley, near Bradford — a place that has become more than just a workspace. It is a hub for creativity, safety, and action. Every day, people with learning disabilities come together, not just to run an organisation, but to build a movement.

That vision will now be shared with disabled people all over the UK, thanks to a new partnership between PFKC and leading disability publication, Able Magazine, who in their next edition (Mar/Apr 2026) will be launching a dedicated column written by the members of PFKC in an easy to understand format.

Able Magazine has spent over 30 years championing disability issues and promoting its core mission: ‘What disabled people can do, not what they can’t.’ This new column marks the first time the magazine has featured a regular space created specifically by and for people with learning disabilities.

PFKC is about exploring opportunities in life and getting the best out of them, so expect fun, laughter and plenty of energy as well.

Every member plays a vital part in ensuring everyone at PFKC continues to thrive. Members spend time discussing the important topics of the day in the news – including using Able Magazine as the starting point for discussions on various issues facing people with learning disabilities and people who are neurodivergent.

One of the things that makes PFKC unique is their podcast studio. The People First Podcast is recognised by Google AI as the first known podcast run and hosted by adults with learning disabilities and also helps the organisation to raise awareness of issues facing people with learning disabilities and inspires those same individuals to find their passions and seek to reach their full potential. Listeners hear directly from members, not through a filter, but in their own words.

The People First podcast is a regular reminder that when barriers are removed and support is provided, people with learning disabilities can create media that informs, inspires, and educates. In fact, the podcast has previously been shortlisted for a Lovie Award for diversity, equity and inclusion (EDI).

PFKC is working towards a future where learning disabilities are no longer seen as a barrier but as part of the rich diversity of human experience. Both PFKC and Able Magazine want to see a world where boardrooms, councils, and creative spaces include people with learning disabilities as equals. The new partnership with Able Magazine seeks to make that a reality.
