Philip Taylor has been making bespoke orthopaedic footwear for over 50 years and is one of Europe`s most experienced shoemakers. He set up his business The Cordwainer in 1996 with clients coming from across the UK, into Europe and the USA to resolve the issues with footwear supplied to them, often incorrectly prescribed and poorly manufactured.

Philip contracted polio at aged 2, he has to wear the shoes he makes to remain mobile and this gives him a unique insight into the needs of his clients. He has been involved in teaching shoemakers, orthotists and health professionals alike and has spoken at major conferences on the issue of NHS supplied footwear.

His team comprises three apprentice shoemakers, all of whom who have achieved degrees in shoemaking at DeMontford University, they are talented and dedicated to making the best footwear possible and have helped us to introduce 3D technology and new materials and styles to our tradition range of skills and products.
