Pat Alexander is a Manual Handling Practitioner, and the Director of Herts Handling Training.
She has contributed to several “gold standard” publications in the field of manual handling, presented at national and international conferences and worked as an expert witness for the HSE among other clients.
She has a wide interest in many aspects of manual handling, including problem solving in the community and in paediatric settings.
Pat has published advice on handling children, people with disabilities in the community, guidance for physiotherapists at the request of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and is a co–author of Handling of People,4,5,6th editions.
She enjoys teaching and showing new ways of working, that can lead to improvement in health and well-being for both client and staff .
A Falls Prevention Project was undertaken on behalf of Herts Care Providers, East & North Herts and Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Groups and Hertfordshire County Council.
Selected homes received training in a variety of aspects of care, including Falls Prevention. Both Champions and managers attended training, enabling a Falls Strategy to be put in place.
Benefits of this resulted in a drop in A&E attendances and increased mobility among the residents.
