Originally a musculoskeletal specialist physiotherapist, Philippa moved into the field of moving and handling in 1992. She holds additional qualifications in ergonomics, biomechanics and manual handling, and has worked in the NHS, within research programmes, and within both the private and public sectors as an ergonomist, manual handling consultant, biomechanics tutor and expert witness. Before returning to the North East in 2013 to take this job within Northumbria, Philippa worked within the third sector managing training and equipment provision programmes. She is a co-author of the 4th and 5th editions of “Guide to the Handling of People” and of both editions of the CSP Guidance on Manual Handling in Physiotherapy among other publications. She is a well-known national and international speaker and workshop presenter, including not only many UK conferences but also in USA, Belgium, Australia, Sweden, South Korea and Hungary.
The risk factors for falls are well-documented and understood; the extrinsic factors may be alterable but the intrinsic factors involved means that human beings will continue to fall for various reasons. This practical workshop will explore and demonstrate the solutions available for getting up people from the floor, with and without specialised equipment.
