Foundations is appointed by the Department of Communities and Local Government to oversee a national network of around 170 home improvement agencies (HIAs) in England and lead on the transformation on the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG).
HIAs are local, trusted organisations that ensure people continue to live independently in their own home for as long as possible. They offer holistic services to their clients, helping to improve a person’s wellbeing as well as offering practical solutions around the home. Services range from advice and information to energy efficiency measures, from minor adaptations such as grab rails to disabled adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grants. A complete list of HIAs in England as well as a search function based on postcode / local authority can be found on our website www.findmyhia.org.uk.
Foundations has developed a Commercial Partnership programme to strengthen the links between suppliers / manufacturers and local authorities / HIAs. This enables commercial organisations to engage with the home improvement and adaptation sector on multiple platforms.
Foundations also provides training courses for the home improvement sector, continuing to respond to national legislative changes and local needs. Topics for 2018 include: Housing Health & Safety Rating System, Trusted Assessor, DFG Test of Resources & Law, etc.
