Angela has been a Motability Scheme customer since the age of 19. Based on Angela’s needs, Motability recommended and helped to fund a Drive-from-Wheelchair vehicle.
Getting a specially adapted Mercedes Sprinter Drive-from-wheelchair vehicle was life-changing.
“I went from a smaller estate car, where it took 45 minutes to get both my husband, his wheelchair, my wheelchair and myself in or out of the vehicle, to it taking minutes.
We can now continue doing voluntary work in our local community and, most importantly of all, the vehicle helps me to care for my husband independently.”
The Motability Scheme
The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to use their government-funded mobility allowance to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair. Carers and family members can also drive on behalf of the disabled person.
Today, over 600,000 disabled people and their families benefit from the freedom and independence provided through the Motability Scheme, people like Angela (mentioned above), who was able to apply to Motability for a charitable grant which paid towards a Drive-from-Wheelchair vehicle.
On the Motability Car Scheme you can lease a car for three years or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) for five years. Vehicle adaptations are also available through the Motability Car Scheme to help with vehicle access, equipment loading and driving.
With the Motability Scheme, you get the following included with the lease:
• Servicing and maintenance.
• Full breakdown assistance.
• 20,000 mileage allowance per year of your lease.
• Window and windscreen repair or replacement.
• Many adaptations at no extra cost.
• Replacement tyres.
